Decided to dry out 3kg of prawn heads in the bqq on Xmas day and blend them up into a fine grit.

If these were going to landfill, I’d have to store them in the freezer until the next bin collection day and then remember to take them out and put them in the bin, which I’ve forgotten to do many times before.

By doing this… I saved valuable freezer space, prevented more usable scraps going to landfill and also added some chitin to my worm farms to help increase the quality of my vermicompost / worm castings.

*Chitin helps trigger the immune system of plants and defend themselves against predators like root feeding nematodes and disease pathogens in the soil. 😎
